Almost all Japanese elementary school students, from 1st-2nd grade, have homework during their summer vacation. It’s called “絵日記(ENIKKI)” in Japanese, which means “picture diary.” It is written with around 48 -100 words and includes drawings of related pictures every day until the end of vacation.
When I was a kid, approximately 40 years ago, I found it difficult and struggled to write and draw my daily activities on the diary. However, I often remember the feeling now because I’m writing my blog in English these days.
Positive feelings—Happiness, enjoyment, something interesting, etc— motivate me to express and share my experience to someone.
Oh, I made mistake. It’s not only about positive feelings.
I need something to look back to.
The strong emotions will inspire one to write even if it’s negative. Writing is not justifying how to control one’s emotions. Of course, it’s impossible, but it helps to understand.

I saw the Nagaoka fireworks festival 2017 last week. It’s one of the biggest fireworks festivals in Japan. It started as a memorial event for the war dead 70 years ago. I saw many fabulous fireworks from the box seats which were prepared by my friends. 5 family groups joined us, including 5 children. We bought many food and drinks before the event. So, we enjoyed both a delicious dinner and fireworks. I took 2 videos while I watched it. I wanted to integrate all of it using edit apps when I had taken those. However, I didn’t because I noticed the video took a long to upload Youtube. It was a right decision.
This is my drawing diary homework for my tutor.
