3月は、オンライン英会話の教材に、もう少し真面目に取り組むことにします。私は、4年ほどオンライン英会話を続けているのですが、だいたい自分の英語力レベルを理解してくれている先生を予約するので、ほとんどの場合、教材選定は先生におまかせになっちゃってました。でも友人がいつも自分で選んでいるらしいと知って、ちょっと見習おうかと。
そんなわけで、今月は少しハードルを上げて予習することに。今回は、こちらの教材をもとに、気候変動に関して、自分の意見をまとめてみました。

自分の意見
とりあえず、英語で書いてみました。これを何も見ないで実際に話せるかは別問題です。
Frankly, if we want to stop climate change, it necessary radical way. Pope said that a suitable solution exists based on an agreement. However, I suppose it’s too much optimistic and idealistic. There are two reasons.
Firstly, there is a huge gap between rich countries and developing countries. The representative of the latter is Brazil. President Jair Bolsonaro focuses on their own country’s economic benefit and he didn’t care about deforestation and exploiting rainforest in the amazon belonging to Brazil. (In 2020, he changed his mind a little. They set a target of reaching carbon neutrality by 2060 if Brazil will receive 10 billion dollars per year as help from the international community.)
Secondly, We are too much fit this convenient society. Our capitalistic economy sticks to mass consumption and mass production. How could we change this?
In conclusion, the problem of climate change demands drastic transformation immediately. We procrastinate and don’t set our minds yet nonetheless. (157 words)

このイディオムが分からなかったので調べてみました。ぴったりな日本語にするのが、ちょっと難しいですね。フリーディクショナリーの例文からすると、相手を非難するときに使ってるみたいで、けっこうキツイ言い方っぽい。

カーボンニュートラルとか、日本語でも理解が難しいです。ニッポニカとウィキペディアを両方読んで何となく分かったような気になってますが、これも何にも見ないで説明しろって言われたら困っちゃうなぁ。
