Recently many people don’t need to spent money to add culture in their life.
Movies are publicly by the local library in my city.
Everyone can enjoy it freely.
Last night I watched an old documentary in the public library.
It was “Man of Aran” and it was directed by Robert J. Flaherty in 1934.
I prefer documentaries more than conventional movies.
Because documentaries always inspire me.
Someone said on a blog that my favorite Japanese female author, Kaho Nashiki, had written about this documentary on her essay.
What a coincidence! I want to read that.
This movie was not colorful, but it was really powerful and beautiful.
One of my favorite scenes is that of a women walking beside oceans cliffs.
She had a large basket on her back. She delivered seaweed from the ocean to her potato field while the big wild waves were crashing.
The camera work and technique on that scene were tremendous.
I could not believe this film was made 82 years ago.
But the background music was awful. It felt very old to me.
I wish that the sound was just only the waves and wind.
If the music was different, I might be more impressed with this movie.
I was disappointed a little. However this movie became one of my favorites.
