I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a guy wearing flip-flops. He looked about 25 or 26 years old. In December in Tokyo, especially during rush hour, it’s rare to see the man who wears them. He works at a company near my office. The company seems to make software for internet games. So there I was waiting for the elevator with him wearing his flip flops.
“Aren’t you cold?” I asked him without even thinking.
“No, I’m not,” he replied.
“I envy you. You must live nearby…” (I imagined)
“Well, I ride train most of the time…” (I became confused)
Actually, I failed to start a good conversation with him. I (1)confess my lack of imagination because I have never had the chance to wear flip-flops in winter! Not only winter season, I never wear it while commuting. (If I were his mother I would’ve (2)compelled him to wear boots or leather shoes.)
Trains during rush hours are always crowded, and my hands sometimes can’t (3)clutch on to the hanging straps. However, human life is (4)in the balance because nobody knows their future will be good or bad. Since that’s the case, I guess it’s not so bad to wear something that I want even if it is out of season.
I like that guy’s sense of fashion.
