The subconscious is difficult to figure out. We are normally unconscious our daily routines and our stable environment.
Just because it’s peaceful and rich, it doesn’t mean most Japanese don’t always (3)cherry-pick themselves. (4)To put it another way,  they are not immune from seeing other’s (2)cheek by jowl.
In my case, I saw 2 couples, 2 mothers and their babies, who were sitting on the sidewalk when I went out for lunch. One had an empty cup in her left hand while holding her baby. I was shocked by it all because I never saw a similar scene in Japan. I could see elderly or young men sitting or lying on a passage of the station or park. But I can not see young mothers and their babies in a similar situation. I’ve heard a (1)cheap shot in Japan where it says that the homeless people asked for it.
When I heard that, I thought Japan still does not have a comprehensive welfare system
Anyway, I realized I felt some guilt for them and that I could not help them. I also felt I’d like to avoid to seeing them. That negative feeling brings out my lack of self-confidence.
