I found a hilarious short story on Twitter. It’s categorized under “The shocking words from doctors” hashtag in Japanese. Here’s the story.

The scene: A brain tumor is found
Doctor: It’s not a malignant tumor, but it’s located in a bad place.
Patient: What?!
Doctor: For example, let’s say that stomach cancer is similar a brown bear in the wilderness. It’s ferocious but easy to shoot and kill.
Patient: What do you mean?
Doctor: Let’s just say that your brain tumor, is like a goat in the middle of a commuter train in the middle of the morning rush hour in Shinjuku station.
Patient: Wow! That’s really tough!

When I read this tweet, I couldn’t stop reading the same hashtag stories to (1)catch up on similar stories. There are a lot of funny stories, but I can’t (3)chip in because I don’t have such kind of episodes. Even if I have the experience, I wouldn’t (4)bend over backward to try to tweet something funny. Those people have a good talent to create a new world of humor in the dark side of life. I don’t think that I can(2)catch up with those talented people. I’m jealous of that ability.

homework:
1) catch up on: Acquire information you have missed.
(e.g.) “I must call my mother to catch up on the latest family events.”
2)catch up with: Reach the same stage as someone else.
(e.g.) “I’ve missed some classes so I’ll have to work hard to catch up with the others.”
3)chip in: Contribute to or participate in something done by a group.
(e.g.) “Bob has decided to retire and we’re going to buy him a present. Do you want to chip in? ”
4)bend over backwards: If you bend over backwards, you try very hard to do something, especially to please somebody.
(e.g.) The manager bent over backwards to try to make Jack stay, but Jack wouldn’t change his mind.
