I recently read an interesting article for students who are job hunting in Japan. The author said that jobs are categorized into 5 different types. He recommended that young people should be experienced in all types as soon as possible. I highly agree with his opinion because it lets young adults see (4)the big picture. If they do it, they can find their talent. These are the 5 patterns that he mentioned:
(Type A)”zero to one”
It means creating something totally new similar to an entrepreneur. This kind of person always (1)dishes out unique ideas.
(Type B)”one to nine”
It means improving the early stages of a company. It requires skill in improving products and increasing sales. Jobs in startup companies belong to this category. They are not afraid to (2)dispense with prudence if it impedes with their success.
(Type C)”nine to ten”
It means to perfect everything in detail. For instance, reforming the details of products to make them more accurate. Some kind of big company jobs belong to this category.
(Type D)Keeping the position
It means the job needs to resist the pressure of changing situations. Since consumer and social interest may change, the “one to nine” job tries to add new value, but this category of the job tries to protect the product or service from declining in value. This kind of job has some difficulty in that it (3)does away with existing jobs or tasks.
(Type E)”Minus to zero”
The last category is trying to make minus to zero.
It is the kind of work that helps people who are below standard get up to par.
Examples are doctors or members of an organization who support refugees.
I analyzed my job experience using these 5 types. I have done Type B to D jobs until the present for 25 years. I could adjust to Type D work but I sometimes felt empty. Type C was too difficult for me because it is not my nature to be attentive to details. Therefore I’m doing Type B jobs nowadays. I hope everybody can find their own job which suits their ability and character.
