I visited Kyoto with my new friend to attend an event which was held in a small bookstore yesterday. I solicited her to go to the event with me and she kindly accepted my offer. It was my first trip with her and it was an overnight one. Even though our main purpose was to attend the event, we still managed to do some sightseeing. She has many favorite places in Kyoto, some of which are several cafés and small bookstores. So we went to 2 cafés and we talked about many things. Incidentally, she found her favorite book at the bookstore. She told me what part of the book impressed her. She said, “I always sob when I read it.”
She wanted to go the bookstore which soared among the small business circles of publishing in Japan. I found an interesting book related my favorite author at the bookstore. I struggled whether to buy it or not because it was too expensive and heavy. I ended up not buying it after all.
We found a good Japanese restaurant located along the Kamo River. It is located at the end of a narrow street, and we were wondering at first if the road was correct. It was definitely right. We completely enjoyed Kaiseki cuisine, which is a course of a traditional Japanese cuisine. The restaurant’s service was excellent.
We finished dinner, but we didn’t have enough time to talk. So we went to a café again! I ordered the coffee smothered in cream. We arrived at the hostel at 23 PM, so I snuck out of the hostel for go to a SENTO, which is a Japanese style public bath. It was a little bit difficult to use because the style is a little old where a Bandai, who is the manager of the public bath, sat in the center of the entrance. He or she would check both rooms of the dressing rooms. I felt embarrassed a little bit when I used it.
I discovered 3 things about myself during this trip. Firstly, I’m not a real traveler like my friend. Real travelers, I imagine, suddenly want to go somewhere too far away from where they are. I don’t understand that kind of feeling. Secondly, fortunately, I’m not an epicure or gourmet. Lastly, I found out that my communication skills have become better than before.
