Cosmetics and any kind of beauty products are not a necessity for me nowadays. When I was younger, 20-30 years old, I believed if I got slimmer, more beautiful, or richer, I will be happier. I’m now over 45 years, I realized the truth about happiness on my own. For a long time, I didn’t (3)play my cards right. Even if I took a lot of time and money to maintain my appearance, my mind is never really satisfied. It was still empty. Or rather, the emptiness was increased day by day.
What’s was wrong? I (1)put on my thinking cap, I tried stopping believing any kind of advertisements and TV commercials for cosmetics and products because I learned that it’s one of the tricks to brainwash consumers which the product companies use to increase their sales. I don’t like mass consumption and an unsustainable way of living, but I’m not denying other people’s preference. and I also don’t want to force my beliefs to others.
I attended My company’s Christmas Party last Friday night which had a rock star theme. My colleague’s friend prepared everything for me, my costume and makeup. I painted my fingernails black while her niece Made up my face in the image of a glam rocker. I enjoyed the transformation while I felt embarrassed a little. She said, “If you join some contest, winning is definitely (2)in the cards!” My colleagues and boss complimented my fake appearance. Their all compliments were certainly should have been intended for my friend and her niece because I was just a blank canvas. Luckily I could fit the ambiance of the party which I wasn’t familiar with due to their support. If my existence could contribute something to improve the spirit of the party, I’m glad. But that’s all. The eccentric transformation exhausted me, and I needed to sleep for 10 hours the next day.
(The fake appearance always brings fatigue and emptiness of mind in my case…)
I’m now curious about how and who creates the criteria for women’s beauty in society.
