My friend told me when I found a new job. “If I knew you were searching for a job, I would have recommended you to one of my friends because he’s searching for a good worker! He wouldn’t say that (5)business is business if I recommend you and you also don’t need to (4)butter him up.” I thanked her, but the idea was not preferable for me. I (1)took the reason apart in order to understand myself. Firstly, I prefer to find the job myself because somebody’s recommendation is difficult to (3.2)take back even if I don’t like the job. Secondly, it (2)takes away from my joy of job seeking. Finally, I don’t want to bother my friend.

(2)take away:
(2.1) Cause something to disappear.
(e.g)”The doctor gave my father tablets to take away the pain.”
(2.2)Buy food at a restaurant and carry it elsewhere to eat it.
(e.g)”Two beef curries to take away please.”
(3)take back:
(3.1) Agree to receive back/ be returned.

(3.2)Retract or withdraw something said.
(e.g)”I take back what I said about cheating. I didn’t mean it.”
(4)butter somebody up: When you butter someone up, you flatter them or you are very nice to them, especially if you want to obtain something.
(e.g)He was so keen to get the job that he spent his time buttering up the boss.
(5)business is business: This is a way of saying that in financial and commercial matters, friendship or personal feelings should not be allowed to have any influence.
(e.g) I’ll hire your brother only if he is the best candidate. I’m sorry but business is business!
Business is business is a lot like business before pleasure. They’re mostly used on their own in the context of a conversation.
e.g I know you are my cousin but business is business, I just can’t give you a discount.
