My book club meeting has been (1)running once a month since August 2011. The members and venues have changed along the years, but the topics haven’t (2)run out yet. Actually, It was impossible for me to continue on my own. I sometimes complained to the other members, “I have no idea to continue it, or “We’ve (3)run out of interesting books!” etc…

When I said those kinds of things which (4)nipped the future in the bud, some members often gave me good advice to motivate me. I always appreciate all the attendees and the good opportunities to discuss an interesting topic. My book club is based on discussing Japanese books. I hope I can attend other book clubs in the future which are based in English.

homework:
(1) run on: Continue without interruption.
(e.g )”We didn’t expect the chairman’s speech to run on for so long.”
(2) run out: Expire, come to an end.
(e.g )”Let’s order now before the offer runs out.”
(3) run out of: Have no more of something.
(e.g )”What a nuisance! We’ve run out of coffee.”
(4)nip in the bud: If you nip a problem or an unacceptable situation in the bud, you stop it at an early stage, before it develops or becomes worse.
(e.g ) He wanted to be a clown, but his parents soon nipped that idea in the bud.
