I was curious why I sometimes couldn’t stop reading some negative comments on Twitter.
But I got one explanation when I read my favorite author’s newsletter several days ago. He explained that it is because of evolutionary psychology. Everybody wants to avoid dangerous things because it is a human instinct.

He often (3)asked around if our new year’s resolutions were realized. The most important thing is to (1)arrive at a practical goal. He showed me the way of thinking when creating a New years resolution.

“You must (4)bear in mind how to stop spending the time which brings negative effects. For example, If you can’t stop reading an endless slander battle which you hate on Twitter, that is ‘Meaningless Time’. I understand that situation because people do it more often than not when they are stressed and lack time. It’s the same situation when people like bad odors.
One doesn’t need to pay attention to a good fragrance because of its safety. However bad odors might be dangerous and the situation may become worse if we don’t pay attention it. Thus people instinctively think they need to pay attention to it. There are many people who monitor insult from others on the internet to protecting themselves. However, that behavior lacks creativity. You waste your time and get more stressed. So that’s why I asked you. In my opinion, it’s a good thing that you try to lessen those kinds of times.”

After reading this message, I managed to shorten the time I checked SNS. But it’s still difficult to avoid wasting time.
