おしっこに連れて行ったり、着替えさせたり、ご飯を食べさせたり。ある日、おもちゃを片付けなかった弟に、ちょっと厳しい口調で「良い子にしないと、嫌いになっちゃうぞ」と言ったら「そんなこと言わないで。良い子になるから嫌いにならないで」と言って泣かれたことがある。こちらは冗談のつもりだったのに、あまりに真剣に悲しそうで、またその様子が健気で可愛くて、愛らしくて。すぐに抱きしめてこちらから謝ってしまった。これは一生忘れられない記憶になるだろう。赤ちゃんは、確かに肉体的に弱い生き物だと思う。でも、全てにおいて、弱いわけじゃなく強力な武器も持っているのだ。疑うことを知らない純粋で素直な心。それは赤ちゃんが自分自身を守るための本能に根ざしてるんじゃないかと思う。
