I watched the movie “Venom” when I went back to my hometown because my mother wanted to go somewhere with me. I thought that it was not so suitable to watch it with her, but she didn’t care about that. We watched the movie after lunch. We enjoyed it, but If I didn’t go there with her, I would not have watched it.
The movie’s main character is Spiderman’s anti-hero “Venom” which is an alien’s name known as the symbiote. The alien latches onto Eddie Brock who is a well-known TV reporter.
Eddie had been in big trouble, he lost his successful job and beautiful fiance, all because he (4)called a spade a spade. He tried to report about his suspicions on human experimentation in Life Foundation, but Its CEO, Carlton Drake had completely blocked his plans.
In the beginning, Eddie didn’t realize what happened to his body. He heard an inner voice say “Hungry”, and he couldn’t control himself (2)wolfing down raw Lobster in a water tank at a restaurant. The alien wanted to be symbiote of Eddie. However, It’s not easy to (1)whip up a symbiosis for Eddie even if he gets superpower from the alien “Venom”. Venom has an appetite for a human flesh, and Eddie tries to (3-2)work out a way out of unnecessary cannibalism. Eddie told Venom that he can only eat bad people.
This kind of movie is categorized a ‘right and wrong’ movie. Audiences were thrilled and sympathized with the hero’s thoughts and actions. I remembered that the plot is similar to my favorite Japanese comic, “Parasyte” written by Hitoshi Iwaaki in 1988.
Venom was angry when Eddie called it a parasite. “I’m a symbiote, I’m not a parasite.” I’m just curious about the difference. Is a parasite bad, but the symbiote is good? Is it possible to clearly define?
